Strangers

There are no strangers, only friends you have not met yet.
- William Butler Yates

We had three strangers visit Farm Dover on Sunday night. Two were most welcome. The third we encouraged to keep on crawling -- toward our neighbor's pond.

Jared and Brooke, friends of a friend of Jack's, stopped overnight at Farm Dover on the first leg of their road trip. They had left their home in Hopewell, NJ at the crack of dawn, stopped for a hike in the Red River Gorge, before making their way down our drive just as dark was coming on.  The brother-sister team was up and out early Monday morning, headed to Mammoth Cave -- where we hope they stayed cool.  From there they were headed to Nashville and Ashville and who knows where else -- camping and couch surfing along the way.

It was fun to meet Jared and Brooke, put them up for the night,
and send them on their happy way.
We were not such gracious hosts to this guy -- a snapping turtle that was on a road trip of his own. He did look hot and thirsty, but he was not far from our neighbor's watering hole.

  1. Hi Debbie,

My name is James, husband of Rosa who owns Lea Gardens in Tresta, Shetland, UK, where Jack stayed for a week and, among other things, cleaned out our Augean stables like Hercules, cut grass, and serenaded us with Schubert lieder.

I've much enjoyed flitting through your blog, your fruit and veg crops are enviable!

Please can you tell Jack his cap was found on the bus and handed in, and i'm just about to pop it in the post - though I must admit I'm very tempted to "lose" it again!

With best wishes, and good gardening.

    1. Hello James. Nice to hear from you. Ever since Jack told us he would be visiting you and working at Lea Gardens, I've been following Rosa's "The Impossible Garden" blog. I'm so impressed with your efforts at gardening/sheep-raising in the Shetland Islands.

Thank you for hosting Jack and for posting his cap back to him. I'm looking forward to welcoming Jack back home to Kentucky next week and to hearing about his WWOOLFing adventures.

Please know that you and Rosa are always welcome for a visit to Kentucky and a stay at Farm Dover.

      Happy gardening.
